One that consists of the day usually beginning with the man of the house stirring in his room about 6am, we manage to fob him off another hour maybe an hour and half with the help of a dummy, if not cuddles in our bed always do the trick :) (bad habit I know but right now I wouldn't give up those cuddles for all the money in the world!)
From 7.30am our day begins properly. The day revolves around bottle and nap times, this makes the day go extremely fast! However its finally allowed us to have a regular routine (and I love my routines!) and get back on track fitting in all of life's little things that got thrown to the way side during the first 3 months of Junior's life.
So today it began, I decided it was time to get back on the healthy eating / regaining some kind of fitness wagon. I weighed myself on the Wii Fit this morning, woah, was I depressed when it told me I was obese!! Now I'm no slim jim but the fact I was back into my own normal clothes after having Junior, I felt pretty good..until told otherwise! Anyway this just spurs me on.
So I've downloaded my calorie counter app, myfitnesspal.com works best for me and have so far managed to have balanced meals, drink plenty of water (only have 2 bourbon creams :P) and go for a 60 minute walk...that involved 2 steep hills while pushing a pram! So far so good...for day 1!
Now I'm not one for rigid "Don't eat this, don't eat that" kind of thing because I love my food too much but I believe in moderation and an 80/20 approach, in the past its been Monday - Friday good, Saturday and Sunday relax.

Aims:

My first goal is October 28th, 5 weeks from now, to be down a "couple" of pounds, hopefully 5 pounds

Try a new, healthy recipe a week to broaden my spectrum of cooked dinners..theres only so much steamed fish and veg a girl can eat in one week!

To do my 60 minute walk at least 5 days a week

To use Bio Oil every night and see if it actually does work on those wonderful things call stretch marks!

Only 4 aims for now but I don't want to go over board with things. So I will check in here regularly, actually I should add that to my Aims list...to blog at least 4 times a week! I'll work on that one too :)

Fingers crossed for October 28th that I can reach my goal.

Anyone else have any short term goals they are working on?? I'd love to hear :)

On June 12th 2013 at 04.36am our perfect little creation, Luke James was born weighing in at 6lbs 8 1/2 oz. What an awesome day :)

Luke arrived bang on time for his due date of the 12th but not without a few complications. From week 38 on I suffered form high blood pressure so was in and out of the hospital for the last 2 weeks when on June 10th the doctors decided it would be best for baby if they induced me. Apparently the fluid around the baby was becoming less and less each time they checked and did not want to take any risks, not to mention my blood pressure which refused to stabilise at a good number. So off we went down to the induction "suite" to begin the process...and what a long process it was!! After taking the gas and air and pethadine, I was sent for the epidural, thats when things really started happening. We were getting ready to go to start the pushing, I was fully dilated when Luke's heart rate dropped quite a bit. The doctor did a few quick tests and decided that they would be better off acting fast in order to get Luke out ok so I was sent for an emergency section. I cant quite explain that feeling, of course I was terrified but I think I shut down. I didn't speak or anything, I stayed quiet until I knew that Luke was out safe and sound...of course he took a bit of time to cry which felt like hours but once he did a huge sense of relief rushed through me, he was out and he was ok :) My little boy was brought over for a quick cuddle before he whisked away again until I was in recovery.

I know this goes without saying obviously but seriously no one warned me of the absolute over whelming rush of love you get when you see your baby. I couldn't quite believe that I could feel this way, an immediate need and want to protect this tiny human being and give them all the love you can physically give. I couldn't even look at him without crying, I still cant some days!

Our little boy has well and truly integrated himself in our lives now and each day hes more perfect than before. We adore him.

The last 8 weeks have been hectic, emotional, happy, hard, a complete roller coaster but each day we are learning more about our little boy and each day he is growing and thriving.

I took full advantage of the extra day off due to our national holiday and packed in loads of out and about trips.

First up, myself and the Boy took a trip to Kinsale in West Cork (I've blogged about this place before but it really is one of my favourite places in the county). We decided to pack a flask of tea and some rolls for our trip and ate them while looking out over Kinsale harbour from Charles Fort..an amazing view from up there. We then took a stroll around the town for a visit to Sundays Ice Cream Parlour..I love this place!! It's really retro and funky with 1950's style decor. We stocked up on some yummy sundaes in there. An extremely colourful looking shop caught my eye as we walked past so I just had to go in and have a look! It was like walking into my own little piece of heaven...it was filled with little trinkets, writing sets, 1950's style cups and signage, fairies etc. Its called Stone Mad, quite apt too.

Sunday then of course was St Patricks Day. I'm ashamed to say I haven't actually made it to my local parade in a few years due to the effects of the night before taking their toll. This year, however I ventured down town to Cobh town centre to watch the parade. We were joined by the Mothership and Daddykins to watch it as the oldest niece was in it with her rowing club. It was the biggest turnout I'd ever seen and the town looked super! Thankfully the sun was shining for most of it with the odd shower here and there but it didn't seem to dampen anyones spirit. While most people were out in the pubs for the rest of the night, myself and the Boy ate loads of finger food, played cards and watched some films..couldn't think of any better way to spend a bank holiday Sunday night :)

And to finish off our bank holiday weekend...a picnic on the beach!! Some friends asked us did we want to join them on a trip to a beach near by for a little picnic which of course we did..we've grown fond of the flask! :) So we loaded up the car with the tea, goodies and a blanket and took off to Garryvoe. It was a bit cold but once the sun was shining it was lovely, we had a stroll along the beach, ate some sandwiches, visited the playground and of course finished it off with a 99!

All in all I had a super awesome long weekend (thanks St Paddy for the extra day!) and really enjoyed our bit of sight seeing, picnicing and general chill out down time instead of the usual drunken antics...and we can't wait for next year already to bring Junior along to his first local parade to join in the festivities with us :)
Life has been hectic these past few weeks between work, car shopping, baby shopping and life in general - happy to say though that I finally managed to buy a car, with 5 doors, am I grown up or what?! Sad to see me reliable 'ol Civic leave my driveway though, but not too worry, Charlotte has only moved into the boys house where will now look after her :)

Anyway, I feel like my last few posts have been very "me" so I'm making a conscious effort to make a bit more interesting with more lifestyle posts.

So today's post is a quick recipe to give some fish fillets a bit of pizazz! I've aptly named it "Mum's Fish Dish" because it was just something she tried one night that I liked, so gave it a go myself.

Ingredients:

4x Cod Fillets
3x Scallions
3x Tomatoes
Breadcrumbs
Cheese - Grated Red Cheedar
Mayonaise

Pre heat oven to 170 degrees (I was using a fan oven)

I started by cutting my tomatoes into quarters, deseeding them and then dicing them up.

Next the scallions were chopped up finely and added to the diced tomato.

I mixed these together with approx 3 dessert spoons of light mayonaise

Next up I lined a baking tray with some tin foil and made a bed out of the mayo mixture and placed the 4 cod fillets on the bed of mixture

There was a bit left over so put the mixture on to the top of the cod fillets also

I mixed up my bread crumbs with the grated red cheddar and an egg to bind them

I then made a topping with the cheese/bread crumbs and covered the fish into a tin foil parcel - rolled up the tin foil at the sides and folded over loosely on the top

Popped them into the oven for about 30mins

Served them up with mixed veg and some potato wedges

Luckily for me I live in the countryside so wouldn't venture down town all that often but when I do it saddens me to see the place so empty. Every time I do there's another closed down or boarded up shop or building and the buzz the town used to have is almost gone. I've fond memories of Cobh growing up and in my teens the town was booming but now it's becoming a lot harder to see the positives.
However some photo's taken from a construction site in the town where my Dad is currently working reminded me of how beautiful our town is so have decided to share them with you all and try and focus on the positives of the place I call home.
This Might HelpThe Mothership brought home a card she'd come across at work the other day because of the poem on it that she liked and thought I'd like it too...it was so nice that I just had to share with you guys:

Just A Little Hug

A hug can say "I'll miss you,

or, "I'll be thinking of you",

It can say "You're someone special",

or best of all, "I love you".

It can soothe a hurt or calm a fear

or cheer us up when we're blue -

It almost seems a miracle all the things a hug can do.

When the sun is refusing

to shine on your day

and you're finding it hard

just to cope,

When you're seeing more rain clouds

than stars in the sky

and you just feel like giving up hope,

That's the time when someone

comes along with a smile

and a warm hug

that says "It's okay -

Tomorrow is coming

so don't give up now -

brighter moments

are soon on their way"

Here's what I'm aiming for in 2013:

Be more creative! I've got a couples of things up my sleeve that I'd like to get started on in 2013, exciting ventures should they go my way..I'll be sure to keep you all posted with my progress.

Resume my slightly healthier, active way of life I established in 2012...the leisure centre membership is still active!

Get a new car..because I'm sooo old and responsible these days its time I invested in a decent car, not that theres been anything wrong with my cars to date but I need something a bit more economical and with slightly more room and one that's a bit newer and actually has a valid NCT...

Move out of home, I've been saying this for a couple of years but this year it is inevitable. I just hope and pray I find somewhere in the countryside to move to, I'm just not too sure how well I'd settle living in the town, I am a country bumpkin for life!

And to my last but by no means least goal...this year is full of changes so didn't want to set myself too many goals because of this one important one...to be the best momma I can be! If I can do half as good as job as the mothership did with us then I think I'll be doing ok :)

While my list is small this year, I feel the ones that are there are of big importance..this really is the year where I grow up for real and I just want to do that in the best way possible :)

It's been exactly what I wanted it to be. I completed most of my goal list from my blog this time last year, except for the leaving the country part, but there was so much going on in the homeland this year and the credit card, let's face it, I do't think I'll ever be able to cut that bad boy up!
However I am delighted to say that I stuck to the healthy eating / getting active one, I joined up to the gym which was one of the best things I've ever done...it did wonders for self esteem as well as my waistline. I finally opened a credit union account and the saving commenced. Lastly, I got the recognition at work that I felt I deserved, I work hard...most days!! I did venture of my island for a more varied social scene and so glad I did. Galway Races is most definitely a high light for me, it was so much fun with the girls and what an awesome city! I finally managed to buy my own laptop, and Macy the Macbook has become my new best friend. As well as purchase a proper camera, Canon 1100D and managed to take a intro photography class to ensure I learned how to use it properly.

Besides the above, 2012 has been a huge year for me in terms of self improvement, inner happiness and accepting myself. I'm a true believer that you have to happy within yourself before you can be happy with anyone else and after some soul searching and bit of changing I was finally able to find that peace inside myself and be happy with who I am. I did realise though that this will only happen with a a lot of hard work and a commitment and being able to move past the negativity thrown into your path. So through a bit of restored faith and lot of positivity I feel that 26 was a kind of coming of age for me.

The first 7 or 8 months of the year were spent really just having "me" time, it had been such a long time since I had done that. I got a new tattoo, died my hair a completely different colour, changed up my style a bit, to be more of what represented me and established new and old friendships. However my "me" time was not to last for long before I met James, someone I had known for a while and to be honest, falling for him took me by such surprise, I just didn't see it coming but its a case of looking for something that may have been in front of you the whole time.
I don't think I've ever been with someone who I click with so much, while we are totally different in some ways, in others its like we mirror each other. we've got an exciting 2013 ahead of us with our own little bubs on the way in June...everything happens for a reason :)

Of course there were some down sides to the year, our house being broken into and sentimental items being taken was probably the worst thing to happen this year but besides that, there was so few and were completely outweighed by the good.

I'm going to leave my goal list until my birthday in a few days time and post it then because that's generally when I properly start my New Year and get back into the daily routine.

So I hope all you lovelies have a super New Year and that it brings you even closer towards all of your dreams, and just remember that when times get a little tough or you feel a little lost, just have some faith, in whatever it is you believe in.
I hope you are all enjoying this festive season with your loved ones and had a wonderful and peaceful Christmas day :)
We had a lovely day here in our household...family, dinner, Christmas songs playing and of course the presents...definitely the best one, yet!
Due to circumstances changing ie. life moving on at a much faster pace than I have ever liked, I shall be leaving home soon, well within the next 2 months anyway if all goes to plan. Its safe to say that I am somewhat traumatised by this and its probably going to be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do so far (and that includes being harder than mending a broken heart or a fractured spine after a car crash!).
I blame the parents for this one though. They've made living at home one of the most enjoyable, memorable, sometimes unbearable, cushiest, cosiest places in the world for me to be in...ever! No matter where I've gone or for how long I've been gone, home is and always will be my most favourite place on earth. I've spent the best part of 20 years in this family home of ours, I've done all my growing up here, met my best friend from down the road because I've lived here, I've experienced an awesome life in the countryside because of where my parents chose to make a home for us..and its been the best home ever. Its my safe haven, particularly my room. Oh if those 4 walls could talk, they'd fill you in on all the teenage angst, tears, smiles and laughter as well as the adult versions of all of that! Its the one place in the world thats mine and mine only, I feel comforted and safe in there, and know that whenever Im in there, everything is going to be ok. (That may also have something to do with the Mothership being not too far behind me with hugs, sympathy, advice and cups of tea for whenever any of it was needed!) And as much as we all may have had our down's in our home, like any family, the up's will always, always outweigh them.
Sometimes I think it would be much easier to move out if maybe I had gone sooner, (my sister moved out at 17 and has never come back really!) or I didn't get on with the parents so well or if I actually wanted to move out! I've always had this Peter Pan type desire, I never wanted to grow up, I remember saying this since was a young kid!
However the time has come and at almost 27 years old, this should be a natural progression and it is. This time its different though, I wont be leaving to move for a job and live in some grotty staff accommodation 6 days of the week or to take off on my travels, I'll be leaving properly. To move to a new house where I can make it my own home to raise my own family in (the combination of the 2 things happening at around the same time is slightly over whelming but hey, I was never one to do things by half!!). And I know its all going to be fine, Im moving a few miles away, probably no more than 4 miles (I'll still be an emotional wreck...even if it was next door!) and Im sure I'll be home so often, it'll be like I never left, well for the parents anyway!
As this exciting and important new chapter in my life begins, my only hope is that I can provide as happy a home for my offspring as I was lucky enough to get from my folks and to teach them all of the valuable lessons in life that I was taught that set me out into the world on the right foot. :-)
A once in a life time chance to change the way our country views and helps children. A chance to give them a voice and get rid of the "children should be seen and not heard" attitude, something our constitution has allowed to happen. A chance to protect them and give them the rights that they deserve. A chance for all children to be respected, protected and heard.

November 10th is the day and I sincerely hope that everyone will give the Yes vote for the above to be made real a chance for a more positive future for the children of Ireland.
If you're looking for more information on the referendum then take a look at www.yesforchildren.ie this website has all the information you need and you can also sign up in support, keep up to date and to donate. xo

October Goals

I've set myself a 20 day challenge starting October 1st until October 20th. Mainly because my calendar has been freed up for that time and I need a short space of time to implement some necessary goals:

No lunchtime purchases! I'm a divil for taking a stroll down Patrick Street on my lunch break on a Thursday (payday) and buying a thing or two. So for the next 20 days I'm not buying anything that is not an immediate necessity!

Track down a nice Winter coat - Every year I say I'm going to invest in a proper Winter coat but never do. This is exempt from my "No lunchtime purchases" if I buy it before then!

Go to the gym at least 3 days a week. I've still been going every week just not as often as I'd like. I've had a head cold and sore throat which has thrown me off so I'm going back with full force for the next 20 days.

Resuming my healthy eating during the week..so far so good today! :)

Take as many photo's as possible, I've lacked in this area recently but I'll be fixing that this month.

More home cooking! Take aways have crept back into my life far too much lately so they are also out for the next 20 days!

I also need to get one of those tape thingys for the car radio to connect to my mp3 player, my one at the moment is broken and only connects to one speaker, its been wrecking my head for months now!!

So there it is, shouldn't be too hard to keep to these!

Anybody else have any goals for the month of October?!

OCTOBER HAS ARRIVED

This is one of my favorite months of the year! I love the feeling of Autumn finally creeping in, the heating has been turned back on, I need to blast the heater in the car for a bit on the way to work in the mornings, the evenings are sneaking up on us that bit earlier now and it wont be long before the clocks change. I've got all my scarves out ready for a freshen up wash so they can go back to being worn daily, I've also purchased a few new ones..and I love dressing in layers! The Mother made her first batch of soup and brown bread the other day too, thats always a good sign! I love the excited feeling of waiting for Halloween to come around, no matter how old I am its a feeling that will always remind me of being a little kid planning the costume weeks in advance and waiting eagerly for it to get dark so we can go out trick 'n' treating maybe. It also signals the final end of Summer because September is always a bit of a mixed up month.

A quick update with myself - Summer was a hectic one both personally and at work. I completed training with Le Cheile and am now a Child Mentor, just waiting to be matched up with a young person.

Work has been crazy and about to get crazier, but at least it's a job eh?!

A couple of "friendships" were reformed over the Summer months as I had expected would be, mostly good but some were a small case of deja vu where I realise that some people will in fact never change...but that's life and something I'm more than happy to leave behind :)

I start my Photography Introduction course in Cork College of Commerce tomorrow, Tuesday 8th. It runs for 8 weeks and I'm really looking forward to this as I want to get the most out of my wonderful Canon camera...this is just the start of my future plan :)

My next tattoo is in process, I've given my ideas and sample pictures to the girl doing it and really looking forward to what she comes back to me with. More on that though as it progresses!

I suppose I should also mention The Boy :) He's awesome and we got together in August. He spoils me rotten and I'm really enjoying our time together, it just seems to get better each day..blame him for the silly smile I seem to be wearing a bit more these days <3

Hope everyone has been super :) xo

A spur of the moment decision for a quiet one or 2 on a Thursday night turned into a great session in the company of some of the "country" gang!
The local pub tends to get ignored by most of us, we just forgot about it really when we started to branch out into the town or even the city.
It was lovely to enjoy a bit of catching up with some people I grew up with and have a bit of a sing song and a few glasses of vino. It was so nice just to sit chatting and listen to what started with 3 people playing music turn into about 10 people in the end playing different instruments and singing some Irish songs. I might make it a regular Thursday night thing :) xo
All of her songs are awesome, the lyrics are so simple yet to the point, sweet and somewhat naive. I discovered her about 3 years ago I think, when her song "Almost Lover" was being played in relation to Twilight, but only really took the time recently to listen to all of her stuff. Her voice is enchanting and folksy, I could listen to her all night, the ideal voice to drift off to sleep listening to...and she looks exactly how she sounds if you know what I mean!

I've had "What I Wouldn't Do" playing this evening and its such a lovely slightly bittersweet song, its hitting a teeny tiny nerve for me!

If we were children I would bake you a mud pie
Warm and brown beneath the sun
Never learned to climb a tree but I would try
Just to show you what I'd done

Oh what I wouldn't do
If I had you, babe, I had you
Oh what I wouldn't do
If I had you, babe

If I were old, my dearest, you would be older
But I would crawl upon your lap
Wrap a blanket round our frail little shoulders
And I'd die happily like that

Oh what I wouldn't do
If I had you, babe, I had you
Oh what I wouldn't do
If I had you, babe, if I had you

So lace your hands round the small of my back and I will kiss you like a king
I will be your bride, I'll keep you warm at night
I will sing, I will sing

It was now and we were both in the same place
Didn't know how to say the words
With my heart ticking like a bomb in a birdcage
I left before someone got hurt

'Cause it was what I wouldn't do
If I had you, babe, I had you
It was what I wouldn't do
When I had you, babe, when I had you

Its totally one of those songs for when you're thinking back on something and realising you should've done things differently or how if you had that time again how different you would do things now...well for me anyway.

Happy Listening :-)

Summer time is always a busy time for me but usually just because of work but this Summer is shaping up to be quite an interesting one!

The biggest thing recently is my 2 new purchases:

Canon EOS 1100D

Apple MacBook 2011

Quite possibly my most exciting purchases ever!!! For a while now I've been looking for something, as in job wise because as much as I love my job now its not where I'm meant to be forever, I just know! So I looked back to what I wanted to be before and photography was always something Id wanted to get into, but when I left school 8 years there wasnt much in the way of courses on this solely so I kinda gave up on it. Now though I have purchased the new camera, a funky new laptop to work off of and enrolling a photography course starting in October as well as doing a few days with a professional photographer so that I can learn all I need to know. For now Im looking at it an intense hobby but would love if someday photography was my full time work....all in good time! So yeah I've been really excited about all of that and its been taking up pretty much most of my time as well as work...the Summer is going way too fast!!
I also have something exciting in the pipeline that I can't wait to share but I need to finalise a few things first but I'll keep you all in the loop :)
Its not been all work and no play however! Theres been the regular nights out in both Cobh and the city, I love trying out new pubs and stuff like that! There's been a few other things going on too but I need a whole new post for that (ranting about men would just take over from the important bit of this post..and its not so much a rant more musings if you will!!)

So I hope everyone is doing good and enjoying our Summer...pfft some Summer we're having I know! I am going to allocate a day each week to blog because I hate leaving it go for so long!
I spent this weekend at the 13th Midleton Tattoo Show. I've been going there over the last 10 years and decided that this year I would get something done there...and boy am I glad I did!!
What started out as a smallish pin up girl on a motorbike design turned into an A4 sized half zombie half original pin up girl on one hell of a motor bike, a Norton I was told, hence the name. I'd been looking at the work of my chosen tattoo artist for a while because I'd seen him tattoo before and he came highly recommended, so once I''d gotten an idea together I dropped him a mail and alas Robbie Coventry of Red C Tattoos Utrecht / Dublin took on the job! He came back to me with his idea of how to do the tattoo and it sounded awesome so I said to go for it. I only saw the stencil on Thursday, 2 days before hand and was blown away by it. So off I went on Saturday just gone, down to Midleton all excited :) We expected approximately 3 - 4 hours to do it, however this was not the case! It turned into a 9 hour session from start to finish including a few breaks in between. All was going good until about 3 1/2 hours in I felt a bit faint and sick so took a break to get something to eat. This was only because I hadn't had a chance to eat breakfast and my sugar levels had dropped, won't make that mistake again! With it being done at a convention I was a bit unsure about how I'd feel getting it done in full view of everyone but it was actually fine. In fact it made me excited because people were commenting on it about how cool it looked. I didn't get a proper look at it until a picture was taken once it was done. About 9pm anyway we were done, it was a joyous moment involving a bit whooping, cheering and hugging!!
Myself and Robbie then decided we'd enter into the competition the next day for Best Tattoo Done at the Show and Best Tattoo at the Show, I was hoping and praying we would win because the piece is so amazing I really wanted Robbie to get the recognition for it! (it helped that there were a lot of bikers around admiring it!). So about 5pm the results were out and.....WE WON!! We both got an award for Best Tattoo at the Show. I was so extremely happy and proud, I still can't quite believe the tattoo is mine. I've never seen anything like, the detail is amazing, Robbie really brought it to life and I love how awesomely original it is. I can't thank Robbie enough for his amazing work.
The show is general was fantastically run, the atmosphere was great and even though the weather wasn't on our side yesterday, it didn't dampen anyone's spirits. Sticking around for the whole weekend meant I got to meet some really cool people and fellow tattoo lovers especially some of the crew from Tattoo TV. There was crazy good work on show from other artists too especially from B of New Roses Tattoo, Portugal. He won 2 awards, his dot work is outstanding.
My award has taken up its proud place on the shelf at home for all to see and I'm whipping down my pants every few minutes to look at my thigh and remind myself that its all mine!! :)
Already looking forward to the Christmas Show in Midleton :)
I feel terrible for neglecting my blog, I've so many things I want to post about but it's a challenge to find the time to actually sit down and do it.
So anyway I'll just fill you in on whats been happening around here for me in the last 4 weeks:

As some of you may know, I volunteer with Childline on a weekly basis, well I've decided I've done all I can there at the moment and have joined up with another organisation to be a mentor. So I have just finished my training with Le Cheile (mentor support to kids within the probation service) which was pretty full on and hopefully soon I'll be matched up with a young person and be able to help them in some way. I will still hopefully be involved with the ISPCC in some way too though.

Me and my bestie took a trip up to Dublin last week for one last show with the boys from Westlife and let me tell you it was emotional! We'd been going to their concerts together over the years since we were young teenagers so it was only right that we go to the last show too. It was my first time at a concert in Croke Park and the atmosphere is amazing even if we were quite a bit away. The trip wasn't without its down sides though as the car was broken into the next day and my friends wallet got stolen..not great but could've been worse. I wont even embarrass us by filling you in on our journey home and how we managed to add an extra hour on to the journey...Women drivers eh?! :-P

I went to my very first GAA match! It was the Cork v Kerry football semi final, I was a bit hungover on the day but hey, at least I can say I've been now!

We won't even talk about Ireland's disastrous performance in the Euro's - I did venture out to watch the first game and there was a good buzz around...for a while! Irish fans are definitely the best though.

There was a couple of trips to Killarney in the last month too - for the first time ever I ventured down Muckross Road and took a short walk to Muckross Abbey, its so pretty around there. It's also embarrassing that I have been going down there on a regular basis for the last 3 years and hardly ever venture further than the pubs and hotel..there's so much to see there.

I've also been busy planning my next tattoo which is being done this Saturday, there'll be a whole other post about that though! So excited!

I've lightened my hair too! I actually only did it because I wanted to put pink hair dye in but now the light colour has grown on me so I think I might stick with that shade for a while.

Wow things have really been happening around here recently and not in an obvious massive way, just some subtle changes that have occurred which I didn't even realise were happening until after they happened!
Some of you may know my year didn't get off to the best start, January was a total write off really and for a while it was really hard to see the light at the end of that tunnel...but alas thanks to a little bit of faith and belief and some awesome family and friends that light started shining brightly again :)
The last few months have been a real eye opener for me and while I was getting over the massive upheaval that had occurred in my life, I started to realise how much I had underestimated my inner strength. It's so easy to get caught up in life and all of it's obstacles and struggles and moan about the bad and negative things going on around you. For me I just felt like, "Why me??", "What have I done to deserve this??" and y'know you always have a few false starts where you've convinced yourself you're over something and you've dealt with it by ignoring but really you haven't and it hits you all over again.
However, I think for the first time in my adult life I've actually sat back and taken a proper look at all the positives in my life....and it feels great to realise this and appreciate it all!! Sure things haven't gone according to my life plan the way I wanted it to but then as I'm beginning to learn, the best things in life are unplanned. I realised how lucky I should consider myself to be, as already mentioned I have the most amazing friends and family and these guys are a major part of who I am, I have a job that I enjoy going to 5 days a week, I have a car that gives me the freedom to get me to places I want to be, sure I still live at home but there's plenty of time for that to change...that may not seem like much to some people but to me it's all I need right now. I think I was in my room a few weeks ago, as always, its my safe haven, and it just dawned on me how I've got my whole life ahead of me and I can do or be anything I want to be. I realised that I'd stopped dwelling on the negative things that had happened in my life and instead looked at what I had learned from them and put them in that space in your head where the past is kept. I know people say you should let the past go but I think that no matter what there'll always be a locked box in the back of your mind where you keep your past...because you don't want to forget it completely and make the same mistakes again.
This new realisation has also helped me to move forward with some other issues and relationships and I finally feel all is not lost where certain people are concerned and that after everything we'd gone through we can at last forge a friendship.
I went to see a spiritual healing, angel, psychic lady last week, I was a bit sceptical I will admit but everything she said just reinforced how I was actually feeling inside myself and I felt so strong and positive when I came out knowing she had picked up all of this too. I've been a believer of angels for a long time now, going way back to my childhood and I most definitely believe we all have one guardian angel looking out for us all of the time, to me its very comforting to know and believe in that. And believe me my angel (s) are out in force at the moment guiding me in the right direction!!
Life throws all kinds of battles in our paths and they are all a test to see what we can handle and how we can deal with things...but I certainly believe that everything that is put in my way is done so because I am more than capable of handling it, sometimes it just takes a bit of time to figure out the right way to deal with it.
See I warned you it would be a bit of a long post, but basically I just wanted to share my new found positivity, I honestly feel like I can take on the world these days. Life is a tricky business so when it does get all too much, just take a step back and look around and you'll soon find that there's so many more positives out there that will more than out weigh the negatives :-)
Its something that always reminds me of when we lived in England, it was a bit of a treat for us but when we moved to Ireland we couldn't find it for ages! Nowadays Mr Kipling does some kind of Angel cake slices but not a patch on the stuff me and my sister used to have as kids!
Anyway I wanted to make my own version of it but I messed up the different coloured sponge parts of the cake..I thought I could bake them all in layers in one tin and then slice them into 3 and fill them in between with cream but it didn't quite work out that way! Next time I'm going to bake the 3 coloured sponges in separate tins. Anyway even though it didn't turn out the way I expected it was still yummy and all made with my mother's faithful recipe of: 6, 6, 6, and 3!
This used to be filled with photographs when I was in school but was taken down for a reason I can't remember and was left hidden behind the TV for a few years. So after I redecorated my bedroom I decided to use it again.
This time I have made it into more of an inspiration board. I have collected quotes and such since I was teenager and thought some of the more positive ones could do with being on display. Some of them I printed off because I liked the whole picture, others I hand wrote and decorated a little myself. There's also a picture or 2 thrown in of the friends :) I'll ne adding to it as time goes by. For this I had to dig out my "art box"..this box has been around for years! I was mad into art and crafts when I was younger and have somehow managed to keep the box filled with bits and bobs in tact despite my 3 nieces trying to get their hands on it over the years! I have of course topped up my supplies...it felt great being a little bit creative, another New Years resolution I'm working on! It is now hanging nicely above my bed :)
Me and my Bestie took off to Kinsale for some quality bestie time before her little baba arrives in a few weeks. Luck was on our side today because the sun was out in full force and we were able to enjoy the drive down with the sunroof and windows open and our sunnies on. We found our way to Fishy Fishy, a popular seafood restaurant where we had the most delicious lunch, worth every penny. Even though we were super stuffed we still managed to fit in some ice cream which we got in a funky retro ice cream parlour called Sundays, it was yummy! We took a stroll around the town then, I love Kinsale for all its windy, cobble stone streets, it all so quaint! On the drive back out of the town we took what we thought would be a quick detour to see some more views but it eneded up with us doing a bit of exploring. We paid a visit to Charles Fort, just on the water side of a small village called Summer Cove. This place has alot of history behind including the Seige of Kinsale in 1601. The views from here were amazing, we took lots of pictures! The only downside was that a load of seagulls decided to do thier business all over my car which resulted in a trip to the carwash on the way home!!
I took them down to a side of town they wouldn't have been near much before. It was a bit of an adventure for us as they got to discover the hidden steps that led them to the strand and cave like nooks and crannies that they thought were the coolest things ever! The big K loves spending time on the fishing boats so was able to fill us in on a few things such as sea urchins! She was also much better at skimming stones than me and the small K were, although we did give it a go! Where we were is tucked away at the east side of the town and is so peaceful and quiet...however the tide was beginning to come in so we soon took off again in search of some ice cream and a some messing around in the playground :)
I would absolutely be lost without music, I don’t think I could drive without the mp3 player in the car, the gym would be near impossible without my chosen tunes blaring in my ears and for all those difficult times in life, well I’d never have got through them had I not been able to relate to certain songs at particular times to make me feel like I’m not alone and somebody out there understands how I feel!! Of course, there’s also the happy aspects of music, just hearing a certain song can lift my mood instantly or, transport me back to a happy memory. Music is a great way to keep the past somewhat alive when you can associate it with a given time or event.

I have my favourite bands / singers but my taste in music is across the board. My mp3 player is nearly always on shuffle because I can never decide on an actual album to listen to and it can vary from heavy metal to dance to pop to rock to rap....and so on! But of course I do on occasion let an album play right through, something of which I’ve been doing a lot of lately, probably to go with the weird mood that’s taken over me these last few weeks...anyhoo I thought I would share these 4 albums in particular with you. Happy listening should you be intrigued to search out some of them J

I could listen to this album over and over again, the whole track list tells a story, a story I can relate to of late, it’s almost like it was written for me! This album has been helping my sleep in recent months, playing in my ears every night. These guys are awesome live, I’ve been lucky enough to see them twice, Jim Adkins voice is something else altogether. Its hard to pick the best song because they are all equally brilliant but I will highlight "Polaris", I adore this song, so much so I have some of the lyrics tattooed on me.
This album takes me on a whole outer body experience, it makes me want to explore my naughty, mischievous side, its just got that real kinda sordid, dirty secret feel to it. "Passenger" was the song that convinced me to give these guys a listen, Maynard James Keenan (Tool / A Perfect Circle) sings on this track also, it gives me goose bumps everytime! "Digital Bath" is another stand out track.
